Our journey to where we are today can be traced back to our grandfather Mohammed Rashid who was one of the pioneers of providing halal food in London for a then nascent Muslim population. Mohammed Rashid arrived on these shores with barely enough money to last a month. Thankfully he was supported by fellow immigrants who formed a close-knit community to help each other with accommodation, food and jobs. Separated by their families who were thousands of miles away, the predominately young male population of young Muslims forged a strong camaraderie and initially began their foray into obtaining halal food by slaughtering the animals themselves just to feed themselves. As the Muslim community in London grew, the demand for halal meat followed.

Supported by his younger brother, Mohammed Rashid established Kashmir Halal Foods (KHF) in 1971 as a small grocery store named “Kashmir Food Store” situated on Katherine Road in East Ham. A year after opening, the brothers moved into wholesale, slaughtering Sheep, Lamb and Chickens by their own hands and quickly developed a reputation for guaranteeing their customers 100% fresh halal meat in accordance with Islamic law.

Our late father, Javaid Iqbal Rashid, became part of the business in 1975. Dad was academically bright, a promising student who had the opportunity to embark on a career in medicine but even at a young age he only had one aim – to support his father’s business. Despite being encouraged to pursue his studies he insisted on foregoing his education to follow in the footsteps of his father. Some 5 years later, Dad was joined in the business by his younger brother Asghar Rashid. Together, they established a small unit on Malvern Road nearby to the grocery store. Demand was outstripping supply, so the business grew rapidly during this period both in terms of volume sold and also in terms of the product range we could offer our customers.

Our current premises were purchased in 2005 after we outgrew the small unit on Malvern Road as we simply could not keep pace with the continuing demand.

We, Imran Javaid and Zieshan Javaid, are the third generation to join the family business and we have pledged to take on the mantle of maintaining the high standards that our grandfather laid down nearly five decades ago. We have adapted to the modern world and provide online services alongside our wholesale services. However, one thing we will never compromise on is the ethos of the original grocery store. We offer our customers today what our father, uncle and grandfather offered them in days gone by…

A 100% guarantee of fresh, quality halal meat delivered to your door.
